Balenciaga

Established in 1919 in Spain by Cristóbal Balenciaga, the fashion house was lauded for transforming the female form by building a rapport between his clothes and women’s bodies. While Balenciaga has had many reincarnations, what has remained at the fore is its avant-garde approach to women’s fashion, often being the frontrunner to forecast Ready-To-Wear trends before anyone else. With Demna Gvasalia at the helm, the brand has become more grounded in street-practicality while riffing on the original couture silhouettes loved by the fashion elite. Gvasalia’s aim is to construct attitude in couture, recently showcased in dramatically pointed shoes, sculpted bags and jewellery exuding futuristic-like femininity - all explicitly underscored with vivid colourways and prints that demonstrate Gvasalia’s masterful dexterity as a designer.
