Liberated from the confines of the school playground, it's no coincidence that opulent headbands and hair accessories have undergone an haute-couture revival in recent years. Sported by first ladies and royalty alike, fashion critics have New York-based designer Lele Sadoughi to thank for breathing new life into retro headpieces. Since launching her eponymous label in 2012, the Central Saint Martins graduate has truly embraced the term ‘costume jewellery’, favouring a more-is-more approach to personal adornments. Her love of the audacious defines both her personal style and that of her smile-inducing designs. As such, Lele references her collections as “a study in maximalism”, fusing contemporary elements with unabashed femininity. Expect crown-inspired headbands, rich velvet textures and embellishment aplenty.
