Expert Tips

Neon Possible

Fluorescent hues have been lighting up the AW18 runways. From sunshine yellow to petrol blue, add a spark to your look with megawatt eyes and high-shine lips.

The Red Eye

The Red Eye

Since Lucia Pica included a red eye shadow in her debut make-up collection for CHANEL, the rouge eye has remained a beauty mainstay. Keep it on-trend with a bright cherry shade in a creamy finish (lipstick also works well), shaped into an exaggerated version of classic winged eyeliner. Follow the contours of your eye in the way you normally would – just make it bolder and brighter.

  • Glassy Lips

To maintain full colour intensity with gloss, similar to that featured on the Miu Miu AW18 runway, layer your lipstick a couple of times first to maximise the pigment. Then glaze over the top with a gloss, but be sparing so you don’t displace the colour underneath.

  • Ultra Violet

SS18’s love affair with lilac hasn’t entirely faded as we go into winter, with ashes of violet and mauve brightening up cooler days. From lavender-grey to vibrant purple, the shade lends itself to a smoky eye, which can be achieved with a collection such as YSL Beauté’s Couture Palette For Smokey Eyes in Surréaliste.

  • Ultra Violet
  • All Eyes

Colour-pop eyes were on every catwalk from Marni to Dior this season, with acid yellow being a star shade. For a wearable version, apply colour to the bottom centre of the eyelid – just above your pupil – and blend it outwards so the edges disappear, going as far as you feel comfortable.

Blue Streak

Blue Streak

A line of under-eye statement colour – as seen at Prada – requires a smudge-proof product like Dolce & Gabbana’s Perfect Mono Intense Cream Eye Colour. Don’t go too close to the nose or too low under the eye, and aim your line up as you take it outwards; the outside point should be higher than the inside one.
