With a heritage steeped in beauty, Global Vice President of Sisley, Christine D’Ornano knows her craft inside and out…
A brand renowned for its innovation and pioneering research, Sisley has been at the forefront of plant-based actives and skincare technology since its launch in 1976 by Hubert D'Ornano – Christine's father. Remaining a family-owned and run business, at the core of Sisley was to lead the way in phytocosmetology – use of only the finest and best botanical extracts. Today the brand remains dedicated to top research into the key extraction and encapsulation methods for all of its products, continually evolving and enhancing its repertoire of the most exquisite and luxurious skincare and cosmetics for all skin types and concerns. And, its cosmetics line infuses the rich pigment formulations with those same botanical extracts to deliver multitasking make-up that comforts and cares while enhancing and perfecting. Step into the world of Sisley with a snapshot from Christine herself...
My father created Sisley in 1978. He had already created two other successful beauty companies so he knew very good scientists in France and felt that the future of cosmetics was in plants. My mother worked alongside him and later my brother and then I joined. My brother now runs the company and I work alongside him. My mother is still very involved in the creative process.
I think it is a great asset to have two generations working in the business. We have the experience but also the fresh perspective. And being family-owned, we work on the long term, creating great products that will truly make a difference on the skin. We have so many exciting products in the pipeline.
The Sisley woman wants quality and to see a difference on her skin. She likes the feel of natural products and appreciates textures that feel nourishing but modern – that is, not heavy or greasy. She is demanding and, at the same time, she wants her beauty routine to give her a moment of pleasure every day.
The best advice I've been given is to take five minutes in the morning and at night to truly cleanse and nourish my skin. And also to layer creams, as they do in Asia. I have quite dry skin and this really works for me.
Sisleÿa Le Teint Foundation gives me just the coverage I need and leaves my skin dewy and glowing. I apply it just to the centre of the face. I also use the Sisley Phyto-Cernes Éclat Eye Concealer for under the eyes and add a little Phyto-Touche Illusion d'Été where the sun would naturally hit my face. Those are my musts. After that, depending on what I am doing, I will apply more or less make-up on my eyes and lips.
I start my skincare routine by cleansing with Lyslait Cleansing Milk and our Floral Toning Lotion and then apply Sisleÿa Essential Skin Care Lotion. Then our anti-ageing cream, Sisleÿa l'Intégral Anti-Age Extra-Riche, which I can’t live without, and Sisleÿa L'Integral Anti-Age Eye and Lip Contour Cream followed by All Day All Year Essential Day Care to protect my skin against rays and pollution. If I go out for dinner I will cleanse again and apply the Black Rose Cream Mask to rehydrate, replump and and give my skin a nice glow before reapplying All Day All Year and my make-up. In the evening, I cleanse again, remove any make-up on the eyes with our Gentle Eye and Lip Make-Up Remover and apply Supremÿa At Night and Supremÿa Eyes At Night, which both help the skin repair at night.
I have always worn Eau du Soir. Now I also wear Sisley’s new fragrance, Izia.
When it comes to my personal style, I love light, floral dresses such as those by Erdem. I like wearing them with a more tailored jacket for work. I’d describe my style as simple with structured lines, but also colourful and feminine at times.
Taking time for yourself in such busy times is very important. This is why I swim and I try to have a Sisley facial every month as it rests my skin and gives me a moment of deep relaxation and wellbeing. I also love being in the countryside for my downtime; we have a cottage in Sussex and go as much as possible.
My favourite spot to visit in Paris is the Maison Sisley, for a Sisley treatment, of course. I also love Loulou’s restaurant at the Musée des Arts décoratifs and, if I can, I visit the Centre Pompidou where there are always great shows. If I’m there on the weekend I love going to the flea market, especially Marché Paul Bert.
In London I like to spend time on Columbia Road on the weekend and love seeing shows at the Serpentine and other galleries. Casa Cruz for dinner is great and I like the food at Farmacy, too.
The last book I read is some letters of Voltaire I was given. He’s incredibly modern and relevant today.
