NYFW: Runways To Watch

Fashion never sleeps in New York City. The first stop in the biannual fashion month calendar, it’s here that designers will throw down the gauntlet for Spring/Summer 2020. Which names are we pinning our hopes on? Look no further for the New York Fashion Week brands to get excited about now.

Plus, for the latest from all four fashion capitals, follow #HarrodsAtTheShows.

Who: Brock Collection

What: Vintage florals and figure-sculpting silhouettes.

Why: Sourcing all of their fabrics from the crème de la crème of French and Italian textile mills, designer duo Kristopher Brock and Laura Vassar share a magpie-like eye for luxury. Expect intricate brocade bustiers, exquisite jacquard separates and opulent silk dresses from the husband-and-wife dream team.

Where To Wear: A private tour of Chatsworth’s gardens. Keep a weather eye out for modern Mr Darcy types emerging from the lake.

Who: Nanushka

What: Contemporary updates to your capsule wardrobe.

Why: When it comes to designing for today’s woman about town, Creative Director Sandra Sandor keeps her ear firmly to the ground. Faux leather separates – now a hallmark of the Budapest-hailing brand – answer a growing demand for prêt-à-porter with a practical side. Entirely machine washable(!), they’re a lesson in modern refinement.

Where To Wear: Brunch at the hottest table in town. Reservations are far from requisite when your look is this chic.

Who: Zimmermann

What: Whimsical prints meet mille-feuille ruffles.

Why: Known on the fashion circuit as Australia’s hottest export, Nicky Zimmermann’s eponymous label is a veritable bohemian rhapsody for your wardrobe. AW19 saw the designer pushing her collections further than ever, juxtaposing signature chiffons with heavier textures of linen and leather. We can’t wait to see what SS20 has in store.

Where To Wear: An impromptu sojourn in the Balearics. The floaty dress purchase came before the plane ticket, but we won’t tell if you don’t.

Who: The Row

What: Haute minimalism.

Why: As sported by the likes of Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie, this Savile Row-inspired maison boasts an A-list pedigree through and through. Timeless elegance is the beating heart of the Olsen twins’ design raison dêtre. Pure cashmere coats, beautifully proportioned trousers and gossamer-delicate blouses are investments that will last a lifetime.

Where To Wear: A friend of a friend invites you to their art gallery opening. Ensuing society pages will crown you the best-dressed guest.

Who: Gabriela Hearst

What: A fresh perspective on style and sustainability.

Why: Poise. Power. Grace. Gabriela Hearst embodies all that her namesake brand stands for. Though her core ethos remains uncompromising to the last, Hearst’s approach to fashion is admirably forward-thinking – and her followers adore her for it. AW19’s sleek ready-to-wear and cult-status handbags, which are exclusive to Harrods, have landed in-store.

Where To Wear: Your next Book Club meeting. If conversation strays from Zadie Smith’s latest, wax lyrical about fashion’s poignant new chapter.
