Erdem AW16

Great expectations were set for Autumn/Winter 2016 at Erdem, and the designer was on point with his oh-so fitting take on the faded grandeur of a 1930s Hollywood starlet. Playing out against the soundtrack of the distinct and insistent tone of Bette Davis in All About Eve, and with nuances of Hitchcock intrigue and mystery, the collection weaved its way past covered chandeliers, through tired furniture and discarded drapes, revealing a seductive new take on old-world glamour.

A showcase laden with gowns and dresses, strong Edwardian midi-length silhouettes were key, in lamé, lace, silks and satins, and finished with scatterings of decadent sequins, ribbon fringing and exquisite embroidery, while alluring cut-out and sheer detailing gave a contemporary edge. Nostalgic, yes, but taking craftsmanship and detailing to new levels, this is a collection we will be seeing on many a red carpet in the months to come.
