For Autumn/Winter 2017, Markus Lupfer stayed true to his trademark, mixing and matching unexpectedly with prints, motifs and textures. Sheer, embroidered skirts and dresses teamed with black bombers; androgynous tailoring by way of tweed two-pieces; metallic co-ordinates, pussy bow blouses and pleated skirts lent a feminine feel, while vivid roll-necks and oversize winter coats were a perfect representation of the arsenal employed by dwellers of the London brand’s native city. The palette, also wonderfully wintry, comprised midnight blue, lime green, muted azure, burgundy and forest green, broken up with brown, autumn-y checks.
While the silhouettes were reminiscent of previous collections, a sporty element was introduced for AW17 by way of leggings and sweaters worn under and over midi skirts, respectively, and emblazoned drawstring sports sacks. For shoes, an updated take on the penny loafer – backless and with an oversize tongue – was presented in white, burgundy or patent black, along with midi block-heel boots and the finishing piece? Square-frame sunglasses for that last touch of cool.
