Mary Katrantzou AW16

Entitled 'Rodeo and Juliet', Mary Katrantzou cited childhood fantasies of ballerinas and cowboys as the inspiration for her Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, and Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet - who doesn’t love that film? – her reference point; expectation levels were high.

Of course, Mary delivered – and then some. American in spirit, with cowboy prints curling up jacket sleeves and down trouser legs, tweed tailoring lent a hint of British charm to the Fifties-style silhouettes. Embellishment – a Mary staple – came in the form of crystal-studded collars and punctuated graphic prints, while embroidery elevated everything from prim pencil skirts to party-perfect dresses. And to finish? A line-up of exquisitely crafted gowns worthy of their very own love story.
