A parade of short, sparkly dresses opened the cosmology-inspired show at Mary Katrantzou – with the slanted mirror based at the end of the runway, they multiplied before the audience's eyes to create the effect of a room filling up for a party.
Crafted from chiffon, sequins and lurex in rich shades of midnight blue, burgundy, purple and gold, the dresses certainly made an entrance, especially when paired with sparkly, ribbed lurex tights and rectangular-heeled sandals. Shapes were more fluted than usual although ruffles and peplums were aplenty.
Meanwhile, black slouchy jackets and waistcoats edged in sequins topped flared and cropped chiffon trousers, little A-line skirts and lace-up booties, rounding off the fabulous yet ultra-wearable line-up.
"Spring/Summer 2016 was Mary's standout collection, showcasing the evolution of her designs with a sophisticated, wearable collection of beautiful dresses with miniature paillettes and micro floral prints. Here, too, we saw the folkloric trend that feels very relevant this season, yet, in this show, completely unique," said Helen David, Harrods Chief Merchant, of the show.
