"Where the forest meets the sea," explained the show notes of the latest offering from design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos. Inviting the world’s fashion industry down to the water’s edge by way of their Regent’s Canal-facing studio space in the heart of Hackney, as the collection emerged it was an instant ticket into the lush rainforests of South America taking with a detour in Baroque detailing.

For a pair beloved for their prowess with print, of course, it was present in abundance, but it was also matched with colour-blocking, layering, patchwork and pompoms. The palette opened in mermaid shades of pinks, blues and greens, but grew heavier as the collection ventured deeper into the forest, descending into vibrant parrot shades, clashing ginghams and near-neon accents.

Big, bold and unabashedly bright, while the softness of the earlier exits may make them a touch more wearable, the finale looks, with their reams of parachute taffeta draping, cut-outs and cacophony of deliberately discordant elements, certainly set the tone for an energetic season to come.
