From the sand that covered the runway to the dunes projected on the screen behind the models, Alberta Ferretti took us on safari – an haute safari – for Autumn/Winter 2016. Opening with a series of bohemian lace-panelled slip dresses layered over smock tops, the collection unfolded in a sea of desert shades: burnt orange, tobacco, khaki, sand, chocolate brown.
Mini suede dresses, with whipstitching and gold embellishment were just the ticket for the new generation of boho babes, especially when paired with knee-high gladiators, while billowing maxi dresses came off the shoulder or as blouson shirts of voluminous proportions, some with geometric prints, and others simple save for their scorched-earth shades. Trouser suits and Macs also appeared in all their safari glory.
No Ferretti show would be complete without a red carpet series and this season's proved to be exquisite: gowns were Grecian-style with wrapped bodices and sheer lengths or more structured, featuring textured feather prints.
