With Bella Hadid opening the Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2017 show in a black leather bandeau and a swooping purple tiered skirt, the scene was set for a sultry summer. The designer continued the parade in a flurry of Flamenco tiers, with chiffon off-the-shoulder tops in turquoise and amethyst worn over boot-cut satin trousers or equally flouncy ball skirts. The looks were broken up with Western-style belts, sometimes stacked in twos or threes around the waist, or leather handbags worn as belts with their pouches securely (and rather chicly) strapped to their backs.
Red carpet dressing is what Ferretti does best and this season gowns came in crimson or teal chiffon with floral embroidery across the bodices. Not a gown person? No problem – Ferretti’s gently flared trousers and matching tunic tops were the perfect alternative, with their smattering of ruffles.
From there things took a turn for the monochrome with gauzy white cotton eyelet skirts and sweeping summer coats worn with black tailored shorts and matching corset tops. Teamed with pointy flat mules, they were the definition of holiday glamour and the proud work of the legion of white-coated seamstresses that flanked the show entrance and received a round of applause at the end of the line-up.
