It's going to be a colourful winter at Etro, even by the label's kaleidoscopic standards. Under a canopy of multi-hued bunting, paisleys, leopard prints, florals, stripes and tweeds hit the Autumn/Winter 2017 runway in shades of burgundy, burnt orange, golden yellow, punchy red and emerald green. "The Etro Paisley Tribe" is what Veronica Etro refers to as her group of fearless, feisty muses who move from city to countryside, from country to country, effortlessly picking up the local culture and codes of dress.
For these voyages, layering is key. Flowing silk midi dresses with knife-pleat skirts and paisley plissé gowns appeared under patchwork jacquard puffer jackets or outsize tweed parkas, and printed pyjama pants were teamed with string bikini tops and flare-sleeved robes.
Meanwhile, chunky cardigans were so substantial you could skip the coat entirely and a range of kimonos came reversible for a quick day-to-night transformation – for although this nomadic woman wants plenty of choice, she also has to travel light.
