It's official, the colour of the season is red. And not just any red, hot red, as confirmed by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi on the Autumn/Winter 2017 Fendi runway, where almost every exit was accompanied by pointy red thigh-high boots.
Kicking off with herringbone tailored jackets and culottes, the initial masculinity of the collection was counterbalanced with said boots, a smattering of mink fur on sleeves or as full-on coats, and top handle bags. Hook waist belts emblazoned with the house's logo added a sporty touch.
From there, knife-pleated midi skirts (if you don't already own one, this is the season to invest) appeared with silk blouses and intarsia fur jackets and silk day dresses in cornflower blue boasted delicate vine leaf prints. Gauzy chiffon midi dresses in red and black brought up the rear.
This was a supremely sophisticated collection that, despite having supermodel power behind it (Gigi, Bella, Kendall, Imaan...), was anything but flashy.
"Chic, polished and sophisticated with tweed and caramel fur as a highlight and red boots on every girl, this was the strongest Fendi show in years. With the 'F' logo making a distinct comeback and the new Run Away box bag set to be a commercial success, this was just as a Fendi show should be – rich, luxe and desirable," said Harrods Chief Merchant Helen David, of the show.
