"Couture is an attitude, not a price point," screamed Jeremy Scott's T-shirt as he took his bow on the Moschino runway – just one of the messages coming from the Creative Director's Autumn/Winter 2017 line-up. 'Want not, waste not' was the other message that came to mind as Scott opened his show with a host of Supers in beige skirt suits, cropped jackets and moleskin coats that were fashioned to resemble cardboard boxes, with 'This Way Up' and 'Do Not Crush' stamped on them.
While the message was clear, the clothes were surprisingly sedate – until we got to the 'decoupage' section – coats, miniskirts, stovepipe trousers and fit-and-flare dresses printed with collages of 1980s editorials – a time when the label, launched by Franco Moschino, was causing quite the stir in the fashion world.
To introduce his final act, Scott once again turned to Anna Cleveland's theatrics. Clad in a red gown adorned with gold tassels, she dragged part of the theatre curtain from the stage set up the runway ahead of a line-up of curvaceous evening wear that can only be described as 'trashy' – as in, dresses that were intentionally designed to look like bin liners or dry cleaning plastic bags, with kitsch accessories including loo roll bags and steel rubbish bin lids that doubled as hats included in the parade.
Bonkers as always but fun all the way, as evidenced by A-lister Fergie bopping on the front row to the late George Michael's Too Funky.
