We may have bid sports luxe arrivederci a few seasons ago, but if Mrs Prada says it's back then it's back. The designer opened her show with a series of apron dresses that were cinched at the waist with striped canvas belts and then hot pants with tuxedo stripes running down their side worn with pinnies. Paired with flatform slides, they were the last word in ‘casj’ - until you got to the ostrich feathers. These adorned bra tops and camisole edges and later evening dresses, coats and even heeled sandals and oversized clutches.
From there, checked ensembles took over in a Seventies palette of orange and brown or green and brown – cropped jackets with strap fastenings were paired with tailored shorts or A-line skirts, pyjamas came with mandarin collars, shirt dresses stopped midi length and blazers were waisted.
All this was the perfect prelude to the sheer elegance that awaited – a line-up of knee-length dresses with stand-up collars and long sleeves that were embellished with elegant beads and ostrich feathers. Some even featured printed collars and what looked like plastic chain link necklaces to add an extra sense of fun.
