Donatella Versace paid tribute to strong women everywhere in her Spring/Summer 2017 collection, which continued on the sporty trajectory she kick-started last season, with an added dose of powerful tailoring to boot. Featuring a bevy of models including Jourdan Dunn, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Edie Campbell and original supermodel, Naomi Campbell, the show hit the ground running in a flurry of amethyst and emerald sportswear: zipped-up leggings with neoprene tees and billowing anoraks, parachute dresses with drawstring closures and asymmetric hemlines, nylon tracksuits and flatforms galore.
For the boardroom were navy or black suits (sometimes featuring a purple or gold pipe running down their lengths) with belted double-breasted jackets, slim-cut trousers and chunky platform sandals. From there things got graphic with motorcycle jackets – in colour block combos of petrol blue and yellow or black and red – teamed with matching A-line skirts, tummy-baring sweaters and stretchy pencil skirts in contrast checks and vividly printed silk dresses.
Eveningwear came by way of bodycon shift dresses that were buttoned down the side with asymmetric hems and strategically-placed slashes and silk wrap dresses with handkerchief hems. Whether off- or on-duty, the Versace woman is on a power trip this season.
