It was a week of anniversary celebrations in New York but Alexander Wang’s ten-year gig was by far and away the most headline grabbing, not least for his front row guests, which included Lady Gaga and Kanye West. In a show that played out more like a rock concert, Wang showcased pole dancers, performances by Ludacris and Lil Wayne and video highlights of his decade-long career on blown-up screens surrounding the long runway. But not before he did what he does best: parading street-style separates with a New York downtown edge that somehow translate to all four corners of the globe.
Block-stripe separates, slit-to-the-thigh jersey dresses with ruffled detailing, slip dresses, boiler suits and net vests were teamed with modern classics, including a Breton stripe tee, a denim maxi skirt and a satin bomber jacket. A show to remember and wearable clothes mean that Wang has plenty more staying power in the fashion game.
