Alexander Wang’s club kids – Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, sitting front row in a 'Strict'-emblazoned sweater from the AW16 collection, included – are set to find themselves feeling beach-ready for Spring/Summer 2017, if in a distinctly Wang way.
Bare-faced with salt-rinsed, unruly mops, the model line-up first presented a tantalisingly laidback play on shirting, with drawstring boxer shorts, cropped vests and bikini tops crafted from striped cotton poplin. Next up, tailoring was given the louche treatment: easy-breezy incarnations further lightened by sheer lace trims and teamed with sandals. A punchy interlude of distressed denim – two head-to-toe looks in bleached indigo and white – then paved the way for leather and neon, wetsuit-style, and a final line-up of sports luxe evening-ready silhouettes, mostly monochrome but for iridescent sequins.
Trading a traditional finale in for a first look at his collaboration with adidas Originals, Wang sent Kendall, Lexi, Hanna Gabbe et al. down the runway en masse sporting T-shirts, track pants and zip-up tops that featured inverted logos and inside-out striping. So cool, so Wang.
