New York Fashion Week

Carolina Herrera AW16

Showing for the second season at The Frick Collection, Carolina Herrera unveiled her Autumn/Winter 2016 collection to a mix of society customers, celebrities and fashion VIPs. Gowns were aplenty, of course, from off-the-shoulder organza numbers to spaghetti-strapped embellished carpet-sweepers printed with 3D jasmines, but it was the daywear that stole the show. Mohair cardigans dressed down chiffon circle skirts, shearling trenches topped A-line tunics and pussy-bow blouses were teamed with cropped flare trousers.

In a palette of blush, cream, mink and mocha, they were neutral basics but not as you know them. The designer, who launched her line on the advice of the late Diana Vreeland back in 1981, may not be setting fashion trends but she certainly has been setting the standard for almost 70 seasons.
