Rounding off New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2016 was the most anticipated show of them all, Marc Jacobs. Following his departure from Louis Vuitton several seasons ago, all eyes have been on the designer and his new direction. This season it was pure theatrics with an old-school movie house serving as the show venue – all popcorn machines, red carpets and bellboys – and a veritable American parade on stage.
Star-spangled prints appeared on everything from bikini tops to silk cocktail dresses and clutch bags, while cowboy boots accompanied several looks down the runway. Gowns drenched in sequins took on Forties shapes with strong shoulders plunging necklines and thigh-high slits – very Hollywood-meets-Vegas. Other American staples, such as denim and the leather jacket, appeared in red, white and blue and dressed to the nines with embellishment. That's the new Marc Jacobs way.
