Showing their Autumn/Winter 2017 collection smack in the middle of awards season makes for some pretty apt timing for Marchesa duo Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, whose front row was crowded with starlets and tastemakers including Olivia Palermo and Coco Rocha, as well as a host of stylists vying for first dibs on that gown for their high-profile client.
This season the designers were inspired by the Far East, where silk-satins, embroidered florals and Imperial shades of black and red came together on column dresses and out-size gowns worthy of Oscars themselves.
Velvet continues its run on the catwalks, appearing here in midnight blue and embroidered with Chantilly lace. Metallic gold fil numbers featured necklines edged in corded lace and velvet bows and, for those wishing for something softer, tulle gowns in sugared-almond shades boasted marabou feathers and fringed detailing for the ultimate texture cocktail. Flowers, meanwhile, bloomed as silk organza appliqués or as ostrich feather and lace embellishment on bodices. Now it's just a matter of seeing which Hollywood A-lister has got their first.
