Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig upped the wattage for Marchesa’s Spring/Summer 2017 show with a collection of decadent, high-shine, frothy gowns that belong on the red carpet and down the aisle. Inspired by the shades that fill the sky from sunrise through until dusk and then dawn, colours were often iridescent but always dreamy. Starting with whispers of pink, the pieces graduated into a silvery blue, dusty pink, extreme black, gold, and powdery blue – a cornucopia of other-worldly hues.
Staying true to form, gowns fell to the floor in swathes of lustrous tulle, organza, satin and silk, often embroidered in metallic thread or festooned with 3D flowers and corsages. With so much attention paid to details – fringing, lace edging, ruffled layers, pleats and plenty of sheer – Marchesa’s SS17 dresses will no doubt make it to awards season in their reams, especially the foil, one-shouldered, Grecian gowns that are simply waiting to be worn by Hollywood’s finest.
