From the "fractured" outlook of last season, Michelle Smith’s Milly woman has a more hopeful viewpoint for Spring/Summer 2018, the collection entitled ‘Wildflower’. If you’re thinking dainty flowers and blossom tones, however, think again, for Smith was inspired by the shapes and forms wildflowers take, translating them via extravagant pleats, ruffles and ripped hems. Midriff-bearing tops were teamed with flouncy skirts and made in natural cottons and linen, while more fluid lines were given a final ruffled flourish.
The setting? An intimate white space transformed into an ethereal meadow, complete with rainbow-coloured fluorescent lights and giant candy-hued bouquets that complemented the mostly neutral collection. That said, when colour was used, it was bold and bright – think tangerine and bubble gum pink. Certainly, next season the Milly woman is a wildflower, no wallflower.
