More of an immersion into the Ralph Lauren lifestyle than your standard fashion presentation, for his Autumn/Winter 2017 see-now, buy-now collection, Mr Lauren took a select group of show-goers on a journey into the more high-octane side of the season. Chauffeuring guests, including Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Jessica Chastain, to his iconic Bedford Mills garage for a rare glimpse at some of the world’s most expensive cars, which make up his personal collection, it was a celebration of the finer things in life as the designer presented his show along with a chic dinner at the Polo Bar, with guests being served Champagne by waiters wearing overalls branded 'Ralph's Garage'.
A distinctly American take on sportswear, the designer took his cue from his coveted cars, with the bodywork dictating the palette – Ferrari red and yellow given extra impact by Bella Hadid in a red vinyl top and ball skirt and Kendall Jenner in a yellow bodice gown, the racing car number '8' emblazoned in sequins, Monte Carlo racing print splashed across a men’s leather jacket and trackside-style racing jackets, not to mention lashings of go-faster stripe panels and electric blue peppered throughout. And, despite the high-energy, more fluid elements, the designer didn't neglect his tailoring roots, sending a stream of key suiting pieces in houndstooth and Prince of Wales check down the runway, along with tuxedos and blazer jackets galore.
Playing to all his strengths and executing with razor precision, this was Ralph at his best – elevated, sleek and sharp. Expect to see the gowns hitting the red carpet imminently.
