Garlands of orchids adorning the show space and safari separates, sleek gowns in molten hues and blue jeans on the runway – despite Ralph Lauren’s decision to relocate its show from downtown to its flagship store in the Upper East Side for the second season running, the style codes of the house remain unfalteringly intact.
Daywear came by way of utilitarian jumpsuits, mesh knitwear and sporty separates, with snakeskin wedges and leopard print satchels providing the requisite safari styling. Come twilight, the Ralph woman slips into a slinky metallic cocktail dress, a beaded column or even a flouncy floral gown and she is transformed into a siren – that All-American aesthetic oozing from every inch of her golden limbs.
These may not be boundary-pushing clothes, but they are the types of pieces that will stand the test of time.
