New York Fashion Week

The Row AW16

The Row Autumn/Winter 2016 - New York Fashion Week

The Row's Autumn/Winter 2016 invitation promised an intimate presentation but nothing could have prepared us for the cosy gathering that awaited. Set in their recently refurbished showroom, all neutral walls and perfectly appointed vintage furniture (available for sale should anyone have house envy – we certainly did), the design duo encouraged guests to sip tea, chat to their colleagues and grab a seat to peruse their collection via an impromptu fashion show staged amid the crowd – even the twins curled up on the carpet, Starbucks coffees in hand, to watch the proceedings.

As we have come to expect of the label, the clothes were exquisitely crafted, minimal in their silhouettes but with luxury twists – the fur lining of a stiff satin coat, the smocked detailing of a satin slip dress and the buttery suede of an understated trench. Despite their love of black, the line-up came in a surprisingly light palette of oatmeal, heather grey and periwinkle, with black looks only rounding off the collection. Cashmere polo necks sat atop relaxed trousers while silk chemises were layered over maxi skirts, exuding nonchalance.
