Celebrating 20 years of Tibi, a brand she founded in Hong Kong but relocated to New York in 2000, Amy Smilovic swapped Spring/Summer 2018 show notes for a letter of thanks, a copy of which was left on each seat at the runway show; it read: "Tibi should always make you feel great, strong, and, yes, happy."
A finely tuned fusion of sartorial tailoring and sporty separates styled with contemporary nonchalance, the anniversary collection is set to tick all three boxes. Slim suiting – single-breasted blazers, Bermuda shorts, mini skirts – opened the show, teamed with white scoop-neck T-shirts and innovative belting – garter-style or transparent PVC corseting – that reappeared throughout the collection. Colour, then, became the focal point with sky blue, burnt orange, lilac and turquoise looks tempting even the most fervent of black head-to-toers in the front row to reconsider.
Concluding with a line-up of plissé dresses with ruffles at the cuffs and neckline, the front row's smiles mirrored those of the models as they then took to the runway for a joyful finale set to Aretha Franklin's I Say A Little Prayer.
