The '90s are having a revival and Isabel Marant is leading the trend. Having championed the '80s for several seasons, the designer's Autumn/Winter 2017 collection seemed to have grown up by a decade, re-introducing staples including pleated jeans, boxy, double breasted blazers and chunky knits tucked into high-waisted trousers. Even just one season ago these would have looked all wrong but on the runway now, and especially as they were modelled by the decade's top faces Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy, we know we are ready for them.
If these pieces sound unsexy, there was plenty to render them so – wide belts were used to emphasise hourglass silhouettes, velvet body-con tops rendered slouchy suiting feminine and metallics appeared everywhere, from flouncy one-shouldered dresses to lamé socks, and even on the bow shoes that have become a Marant signature. Not to mention Anna Ewer's red hot thigh-high boots, which were teamed with a wholesome floral prairie dress.
Although trousers this season are mostly mannish and wide-legged, you can't beat a pair of Marant skinnies – here they came studded with crystals or embroidered with flowers. Just throw on a duvet coat or power-shouldered blazer and you're good to go.
