Paris Fashion Week

Making as much of a statement in the location of the show as in the collection itself, for Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, if last season was about new beginnings for the fashion house in their new flagship store, for Autumn/Winter 2017 there couldn’t be a more iconic setting for a season that looks to break down boundaries – the Louvre, in the Cour Marly to be precise – the central atrium, under the glass roof.

A comment on multi-culturalism and a merging of aesthetics, the collection pushed past frontiers and defied definitions to be a morphing, moveable feast. Leather played a key role, opening the show in the form of a sleek jacket atop a yellow silk slip dress over slim joggers or aged-looking and studded as a biker jacket. For night, negligee-style dresses were a step on from last season’s barely-there dress, paneled with clashing textures and toughened up with ankle boots, while flared trousers, a cobalt blue suit, belted tops and even a denim-style wool and shearling jacket added extra options for day.
