Nicolas Ghesquière’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection for Louis Vuitton was inspired by heroines in video games and the designer’s penchant for sci-fi. Sending models down the runway with leather band-clad hands, the looks were urban, modern and certainly distinctive.
Masculine influences appeared in the form of leather waistcoats, baggy boiler suits and slouchy vests. Waistcoats are big for Spring/Summer 2016 and on this runway they were worn over dresses, cropped tees and Edwardian-style frilly blouses. The collection’s palette was a mish-mash of black, greys and white, with the odd pop of bright red or bubblegum pink and shoes came in the way of patent loafers, ankle-high cowboy boots and, as with many of the shows this season, the ever-present flatform which, for next summer, is going nowhere.
