Paris Fashion Week

Miu Miu AW17

If other fashion houses erred on the darker side of the season or opted in on statement-making fashion, for Miuccia Prada, Autumn/Winter 2017 is a time for stoic and utterly glamorous, fuzzy optimism. Looking to the 'best of times' from '20s flapper girls to '40s WW2 in pure technicolour, with hints of '50s, '60s and even '70s thrown in, in trademark Miu Miu style, the designer presented an upbeat collection infused both with nostalgia and an energetic hope for the year ahead.

As though a fluffy, all-enveloping cloud, faux fur was deployed from floor-to-runway, even on the show invite itself, spreading onto vibrant coats, hats, skirts and boots, wrapping up lithe slip dresses, paired with Perspex and topping cat print trouser and roll neck co-ords. Stripes, chevrons and checks balanced out bold florals and a kitsch telephone print, with a dusting of glitter added in for extra fun.

An early adopter of dressing from the feet up, the designer delivered shoes that commanded as much attention as the garments themselves, as spectator-style Lindy Hop lace-ups met '70s chunky-set heels with socks, while furry knee-high, midi and ankle boots with patent straps, bejewelled sandals and slingback heels carried the looks down the runway in boundlessly playful style.
