With couture roots and a jet-set attitude, Ralph & Russo, for its second ready-to-wear season, this time showing in the fashion heartland, took a distinctly Parisian angle for Autumn/Winter 2018, offering up its round-the-clock glamour infused with a more formally-informal ethos. Marking new ground for Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, who stated their focus on daywear, from Oscars to overseas travel, this is a collection for the R&R woman who is constantly on-the-go, needing solid day-to-night options with an exquisite edge.
On the more casual side of the collection there was a standout black patent leather Moto jumpsuit, a baby blue glossy leather trench coat and the palest pink trench dress, a white tux jacket with black lapels and white cropped trousers, while a cream cardigan with metallic lamé inserts paired with a high-waist gold pencil skirt gave it that quintessential high-octane Ralph & Russo polish. Houndstooth played out on a tonal hourglass ivory coat and more overtly on a halter top and fit-and-flare skirt pairing, followed by suiting in large monochrome checks.
For evening, the Angelina Jolie-approved one-shoulder gown, this season in gold and velvet, swept through proceedings, along with a shoulder-baring, embroidered-neckline, dipped-hem dress, a floaty floral plissé halter dress, and a feathered long-sleeve strapless pencil dress, to name but a few after-hours options. Getting into their ready-to-wear stride, injected with couture-sensibilities, expect exciting and dynamic moves from the duo in the seasons to come.
