At Harrods, we strive to go beyond our customers’ aspirations. As Masters of Luxury, Experts of the Exceptional and Creators of Magic, it’s our job to dare to dream, to make those dreams possible, and turn that possibility into an art form. To do so, we’re making some changes – read about them here.
A four-year, £200m project will see Harrods transformed into a retail experience like no other. Having reimagined Fine Wines & Spirits, Travel Goods & Luggage, Toys, Fine Watches, Men’s Superbrands and the Fresh Market Hall, the focus is now on the Beauty Halls, Interiors, Technology and the Dining Hall. Read on for more details…
"This is the largest, most ambitious undertaking in Harrods’ history."
Our historic façade, comprising thousands of individual terracotta blocks, is being restored to its opulent Edwardian style with a major makeover. The building’s listed status means repairs require meticulous care, and materials must be like for like. The painstaking work requires the erection of scaffolding, which will be in place until November 2019 – not our best look, perhaps, but wait until you see the results…
Our Food Halls continue their spectacular transformation. Next up is the Dining Hall, set to re-open this summer with six new restaurants. Originally built in 1902, the room’s famous floor-to-ceiling tiles, depicting the produce sold within the original hall, are being expertly restored. In the meantime, you can enjoy some of your favourite dishes – including our signature steak and lobster thermidor – at Grill on 4.
The Beauty Halls are undergoing a metamorphosis, doubling in size. This summer, look out for our new beauty library and powder room – all clad in exotic marble. Later in the year, the White Hall will re-open as a stunning orangery, dedicated solely to skincare. Then in 2020, a broadcasting hub will open on the Lower Ground Floor, live-streaming masterclasses by the top beauty experts around the world.
Major developments are underway in our new Tech Rooms. Moving from the Third to the Fifth Floor, we are building an experiential-led, immersive space with exclusive products and dedicated zones. Among them, Audio will offer listening areas for the latest sound systems and headphones; Image will see industry experts lead experimentation and education sessions; while Vision will host a large-scale viewing auditorium.
Our new Men’s Superbrands department houses 19 agenda-setting labels and marks the start of a seven-phase redevelopment. Advanced International Collection and Classic International are up next, before Shoes & Accessories, Luxury & Contemporary and the Designer Casuals and Outdoor departments (not to mention personal tailoring spaces, two restaurants and a barber) also migrate to the Second Floor by 2020.
Did you know that the Fourth Floor at Harrods now houses a one-stop shop for all things kids and families? 50,000 square feet of togs for tots and teens, plus toys, furniture, events, activities and a burger bar. And did we mention Sweet Street, the magical candy shop? Don’t forget too, The Toy Concierge can compile gift lists, fill party bags, and even special-order hard-to-find toys for the best birthdays ever.
We’re bringing together our home-accessories and furniture brands alongside Harrods Interior Design (our in-house design studio) on the Third Floor. The reimagining of our Luxury Home, Modern & Contemporary, Modern Glamour, Luxury Linens, Beds and Cookshop departments, as well as a comprehensive new fabric library, will create a haven for interiors lovers, to be rolled out in stages over the next year.
This summer, we’re opening the doors to the new Harrods Gift Shop – back in its original home on the Lower Ground Floor. Part of the Harrods World project that will see the Harrods arcade, café and bookshop all in one place (with, in a nod to our heritage, traditional mosaic flooring throughout), the Gift Shop will be your one-stop shop for Harrods souvenirs, including shopper bags and our famous bears.
