Tasting Notes

A superb dessert wine from late-corked, botrytised berries. Hugely rich with 188 grams a litre of residual sugar. Great viscosity, heady and exotic, with great intensity, packed with grilled pineapple and luscious tropical fruit, superb length. Outstanding.Domaine Vincent Stoeffler is a 16 hectare estate based in the town of Barr, in the northern sector of Alsace. Vincent has been running this family domaine since 1988, and gained organic certification in 2002. In reality he works biodynamically, using a range of natural preparations with vegetation left between every other row to promote biodiversity and soil stability, yields are low and the vines are harvested by hand. After a slow, gentle press the entry level wines are vinified and aged in stainless steel, while the single-vineyard wines and Grands Crus spend time in large (1000-7000 litre) neutral old oak barrels, some dating back to 1901, lending the wines an extra textural dimension and potential for ageing. While the wines run the gamut from crisp, fresh and mineral through to the more exotic and sweet late-harvest styles, they are linked by great varietal purity and fine acidity, combined with controlled richness and great length. This a terrific estate is run by a dedicated winemaker crafting expressive, high-quality wines which successfully capture the diversity of terroirs and varieties Alsace can offer.Pairs well with blue cheese, apple crumble, and crème caramel.
