Nine Elms

Nine Elms

With Vauxhall’s bountiful Pleasure Gardens close by, it’s no wonder this spacious open-plan apartment was designed with nature front of mind. Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens was one of the most prominent entertainment destinations of the Georgian period and the Harrods Interior Design team took inspiration not only from its beautifully green landscape, but from its vibrant past as an inner-city hideaway.

Starting in the hallway, a leaf-patterned wallpaper sets the tone for a botanical wonderland. Through its elevated materials, organic silhouettes and stylish wall lamps reminiscent of petals, the living room also pays homage to the natural world. The walls are decorated with shimmering silk wallpaper that showcases rippled lines, and its reflective surface recreates the visual appeal of glimmers across moving water. To complete the open-plan space, two grey-marble coffee tables were included to resemble scattered pebbles on a riverbank.

One of the apartment’s bedrooms was specifically designed to feel more masculine than the others, but that doesn’t mean it shies away from the floral theme. The design is inspired by the flora that grows around the riverside and has a striking botanical headboard as its focal point. Natural patterns and materials are paired with a typically masculine colour palette – think pops of brown and orange among shades of blue – to balance the décor.

A bold herbaceous wallpaper is the inspiration behind the design of the primary bedroom. Applied to curved panels that resemble an embroidered folding screen, it feels both elegant and feminine. A gold pendant light features on one side of the bed only, creating subtle accent lighting. To blend the interiors with the view, tranquil blue curtains were chosen for their resemblance to a clear sky.

For this project, the team have created a harmonious and immersive family home where the clients are able to escape from the outside world and indulge in moments of peace – just as visitors do at Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
