Happy Sport: Julia Roberts Is All Smiles in Chopard

Proportion, precision, personality; you can find it all at Chopard. Under the helm of Caroline Scheufele, co-president and creative director, Chopard continues to be a trailblazer – serving modern women of every era. Such was Caroline’s inspiration behind the timeless Happy Sport watch collection: “I wanted a watch that I could wear all day long: at the gym, in the office or for a dinner in town.” Born in 1993, Happy Sport continues to be an icon of fine watchmaking – now celebrated with an innovative redux and a new A-list ambassador.

Happy Sport the First

An extraordinary alliance between steel and diamonds, Chopard’s Happy Sport was a unique translation of the maison’s signature kinetic diamonds. It’s through these and a hallmark pebble-link bracelet that its new Happy Sport the First timepieces – two limited re-editions – pay tribute to the original, while an updated Lucent Steel A223 case readies the icon for future generations. The result of four years of research and development, this precious alloy is comprised of 70% recycled materials, representing a remarkable step forward for sustainable luxury.

The Meeting of Two Icons

Chopard’s Happy Sport finds a kindred spirit in Julia Roberts, Hollywood’s most famous smile. Much-loved for her electric personality both on and off the silver screen, Roberts’ humour, irreverence and unstudied elegance is the embodiment of Happy Sport. As an ambassador, she solidifies Chopard’s relationship with film and cinema, while also capturing the essence of Caroline Scheufele’s initial muse.

"It was her and nobody else! Julia Roberts was the only person I felt could convey the spirit that I see in Happy Sport."

Choreographing Diamonds

Synonymous with Chopard since 1976, dancing diamonds – “happier when they are free”, according to Caroline Scheufele’s mother – are a symbol of joy in fine jewellery and watchmaking. The magic is in their movement, which sees each precious stone float as if weightless and of its own volition. Such a feat is only achievable thanks to the craft of Chopard’s skilled artisans, who delicately position the diamonds between two sapphire crystals, allowing them to dance at will.
