Moncler

Moncler, founded in 1952 by René Ramillon, takes its name from the French Alpine town of Monestier-de-Clermont. Equipping customers for extreme weather, the brand cut its teeth producing quilted sleeping bags and tents, as well as the quilted jackets originally intended to keep workers warm on the slopes. Counting the French national downhill skiing team as patrons, Moncler was bought in 2003 by Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini, who re-introduced the Moncler quilted jacket as a marker of superior style on and off the slopes. Gaining cult status for its lightweight down women’s and men’s coats, Moncler’s pieces are designed to keep you warm and dry without unnecessary detail. Alongside its main line, the collaborative Genius Project eschews bi-annual runway shows in favour of creative capsules with a contemporary undercurrent.

    Moncler Karakorum

How do you define an icon? When it comes to the Moncler archives, there's plenty to choose from. For 2023, it's the Karakorum – the second chapter of the RE/ICONS story. Originally worn by Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli, the first climbers to reach the summit of K2 in 1954, it represents exceptional warmth and technical excellence.

    A New Mood

Moncler journeys through the ages for Autumn/Winter 2023, capitalising on its mountaineering heritage while pushing forward in both innovation and outlook. The result? Technical fabrics joined by futuristic details and glacial hues; endorphin-boosting colours and maximalist fabrics counteracted by more pared-back pieces; and ‘70s alpinewear with a Gen Z twist.

    Then & Now

Moncler cemented its place in history when it outfitted the first climbers to summit K2 in 1954; ever since, it’s been a pioneer – not just in adventurewear, but in fashion, too. RE/ICONS draws on the brand's 70-year (and counting) history, each year reimagining a storied design from the archives to reach a new peak.

You’re never too young to start your Moncler collection. A case in point, Enfant is a vibrantly youthful line that translates the 1952 DNA for a new generation. Age is but a number, of course; postbox-red gilets and quilted down coats in block primaries appeal across the board.
