Behind the Collection: Loewe Paula’s Ibiza 2021
Summer is more than a season for Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson. It’s a feeling of freedom – memories of halcyon days spent in Ibiza, a childhood spent by the sea. “The beach is both a place and an attitude,” muses Anderson. “The spirit of letting go is, for me, forever associated with this unique place.”
Such is the philosophy that inspires his fifth capsule with Paula’s Ibiza – Armin Heinemann’s legendary boutique, which has been a mainstay of the island since 1972. “I’m after that vibrant zing of sunny Balearic effortlessness,” Anderson explains. It shows. An ocular carnival of colour, texture and prints resurrected from the Paula’s Ibiza archive, this latest collection is every inch a summer wardrobe.

“Summer is heralded as a way of being, not just a season: a mindset that works all year long.”

No conversation about Loewe would be complete, however, without referencing craft. This season, you’ll find ruffles interpreted in raffia, point sellier-stitched sandals and Iraca palm basket bags, hand-woven in Colombia by female artisans of the Corporación Oficio y Arte – a collective that works to empower craftswomen to become financially independent. These are accessories with which to make memories. Companions for this summer, and many summers to come.
