Bogner AW22: New Horizons
It’s hard at the top, but after nine decades in the game, Bogner remains a cornerstone of alpine style. Founded in 1932 by the esteemed skier Willy Bogner Sr. and his wife Maria Bogner, the brand first set up shop as an importer of ski goods and Norwegian knitwear, before branching out as a fully fledged label. Throughout, its commitment to quality and innovation has endured. Bogner’s accolades are many – from its revolutionary invention of stretching, stirrup ski trousers in 1948 to outfitting the national German team during the Winter Olympics – and have only spurred the outerwear legend on. For Autumn/Winter 2022, there’s plenty more where that came from.
When it comes to mountain dressing, few items are as essential as the puffer jacket. But not just any down coat will do. Instead, you’ll need one that’s tailored to your activities. Take Bogner’s Clint jacket. With a classic fit, stand-up collar and water-repellent finish, it features stealthy internal cuffs (complete with thumb holes), a ski pass pocket and two-way zipping for utmost functionality. Ensuring insulation and protection from snow on the slope, the adjustable drawstring can be tightened, working seamlessly with layers beneath – the Harrison base layer warrants special mention, here, if not just for its antibacterial properties. Ideal for long days on the downhill.
Made to Move
Great kit and equipment goes a long way when tackling tricky terrains. That’s why pieces like Bogner’s Jesse ski coat – primed for downhill skiing – are favourites among savvy alpinists. Offering four-way stretch, it’s constructed for dynamic movement, and looks the part, too. While flame graphics along the sleeves set a red-hot precedent, carefully placed vents unzip when it’s time to cool off. As for your goggles, they’ll slot neatly into a mesh-lined pocket and can be cleaned with ease thanks to an integrated cloth in another. Elsewhere, go full belt and braces (literally) with a pair of streamlined Curt trousers and a stretchy ripstop layer made from Comfortemp – an innovative fabric, comprising 95% recycled polyester. Race you to the bottom.
