- Visitor Guidelines
At Harrods we are committed to providing our visitors with a wonderful experience that exceeds expectations.
While we celebrate and embrace individuality, it is of the utmost importance that every single visitor who passes through our doors has a positive, pleasurable and memorable experience.
It is for these reasons that Harrods kindly asks all visitors to:
- Refrain from wearing clothing which may reveal intimate parts of the body, or which portrays offensive pictures or writing.
- Refrain from wearing crash helmets in the store.
- Carry small rucksacks in your hand or on your front rather than on your back or shoulder. This is both to prevent damage to displays and for the comfort of all our customers. Harrods provides a Left Luggage service (see above) where large bags and rucksacks can be left.
- Refrain from eating and drinking, except in our cafés and restaurants. There are over 30 eateries in-store. View restaurants »
- Refrain from taking photos in any of the Jewellery departments, Banking Hall, and the Safe Deposit or at the request of security personnel.
- Please note unaccompanied children under the age of 15 will not be granted permission to enter the store.
Can I take photos in Harrods?
While we gladly allow customers to take photos in certain areas of the store as something to remember their Harrods experience, there are some departments where photography is not permitted, such as Fine Jewellery. If unsure, we kindly ask visitors to check with a member of staff before photographing in any area of the store.
For security reasons, we may politely ask customers wearing Google Glasses to remove them while in areas where we do not allow photography.
All business-related requests for photography in Harrods should be directed to the Corporate Affairs press office.
Does Harrods Have A Dress Code?
At Harrods we are very proud of our beautiful store and to ensure it is maintained for all of our customers to enjoy without offence whilst shopping, there are some sensible restrictions on dress code when entering the store. These include asking customers to refrain from wearing crash helmets and to generally ensure they are not wearing anything that could offend another customer or cause damage to our store or merchandise.
There are periods, when the store is at its busiest, where Harrods has to take the difficult decision to deny access to tour parties and larger groups of visitors.
We would ask that all large parties split into groups of no more than four persons.
All groups must be accompanied by a group leader.
On arrival the group leader must report to Door 5 (situated in Hans Crescent) and inform the security officer who will then brief the group leader. Emergency contact details are required to be left at the Concierge Desk (situated on the Second Floor) should we need to contact the group.
Groups with children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

How can I claim back tax on my purchases?
You can visit the Tax Free Shopping Bureau on the Second Floor to discuss how to reclaim the VAT (Value Added Tax) paid on your shopping. Please see an overview of the process below:
In order to claim back VAT, the correct procedure as set out by the Customs Authorities of the European Community must be followed.
To qualify for a refund you will have to:
• Be a non-EC resident
• Make a minimum purchase set by the store (Harrods is £50) excluding food, books, children's clothing and services
• Take the goods out of the EC within 3 months from the month of purchase
• Take your receipts along with your identification (passport, overseas drivers licence, or ID card) to the Tax Free Shopping Bureau located on the Second Floor. Your VAT form will be issued here.
The VAT rate in the UK is 20% (16.67% of the purchase price).
Your refund amount is the VAT less an administration fee.
You have several choices as to how you receive your VAT refund:
If your net refund amount is less than £1,400 on a single Harrods VAT form, you are able to obtain an immediate cash refund in-store from the Bureau de Change, which is located in the Harrods Gift Shop on the Second Floor.
Our Tax Free Team will explain the procedure and direct you to the Bureau once they have completed your VAT form. To be eligible for this option you must return the VAT form, certified by Customs, to Global Blue within 21 days of the form being issued. You will require a credit card, valid for 3 months (Amex, VISA or Master Card) in your name, as guarantee the form will be returned to Global Blue.
If the form is not returned within this period, a charge of the refund amount, plus a debit fee of 15% of the refund amount, will be applied to your card.
When leaving the EC, simply show your purchases, receipts and passport to Customs officials and have your refund form(s) stamped. These must then be sent back to Global Blue in the pre-paid envelope that will be provided with the form in Harrods.
You can then choose to receive:-
• a cash refund at the airport
• an immediate refund to a credit card at Heathrow and Gatwick airports
• a credit to a chosen credit card*
• a refund by bank cheque to a chosen address*
*Once Global Blue has received your VAT form, the refund will be made. This can take between 4 and 6 weeks from the date of posting.
