Shoe care guide

Leather Shoes

DO:

Protect smooth leather shoes with a suitable spray and apply neutral or tinted polish only if a matching shade can be found.

DON'T:

Apply a tinted polish to lighter, more delicate colours, as they can often discolour if not a close match.

Suede Shoes

DO:

Protect with a suitable spray and remove any marks with a suede block, if necessary.

Check cleaning products for suitability and follow application instructions carefully. This will help to prevent any accidental damage or staining.

Brush the pile with a suede brush to revive the surface if slightly flattened.

DON'T:

Be rough. Suede must be treated gently to avoid any loss of colour and surface damage.

Satin Shoes

DO:

Protect with suitable spray before each wear if possible.

Make sure the product is suitable for the type of fabric - and carry out a spot test for peace of mind.

DON'T:

Be harsh. Satin will lose some of its sheen when the fabric fibres have become abraded, in wear or during cleaning.

Skin Shoes

DO:

Protect with spray especially for genuine skins.

Apply cleaning products with great care and only using a very soft cloth.

Snake Shoes

DO:

Protect with a spray especially suited to delicate materials.

DON'T:

Remove marks gently using a clean eraser. Always do a spot test in a less prominent area to check that this doesn't remove colour.

Sheep Fabric Example

Satin Shoes

DO:

Protect with a suitable spray and treat the reverse side as suede.

Lightly brush the 'fur' side to revive appearance.

DON'T:

Let the leather get too wet.

Sheepskin is best cleaned with a very mild soapy water, but make sure you don't soak or saturate, as this may cause staining and fur to become matted.
