Harrods has announced its acceptance of
UnionPay, the only domestic Chinese debit and credit card. The
permanent installation of 75 dedicated point of
sale terminals at its world famous Knightsbridge store and a
further 8 at its Airport terminal branches makes
Harrods the most accessible store in Europe for Chinese
shoppers.
Announced on the day of Chinese New Year, Thursday 3rd
February, Managing Director Michael Ward revealed the
details of the landmark move. Peter Recknager, EastSong Consulting
UK Director, the agency involved in the landmark deal also
discussed both the UK launch and the publication of London's first
Chinese Shopping and Tourist Map in which Harrods is a key
feature.
Michael Ward said: "We are delighted to welcome the UnionPay
card. The added ease and accessibility it offers, coupled with the
outstanding range of services available for our international
visitors will ensure the Harrods shopping experience is second to
none".
2010 sales to Chinese visitors to Harrods almost doubled
that of the previous year and the introduction of CUP is set to
boost growth even further. The latest in a series of
marketing and service initiatives from the department store have
contributed to this phenomenal growth.
