Zozo’s Ramadan Hosting Ideas for a Stylish Iftar

Words by Emilie Dock

Some people are born with an innate sense of style, and TikTok influencer Zoya – better known to her 371k followers as Zozo (@zozosfits) – is undoubtedly one of them. Encouraged by her friends to document her outfits (all while completing a master’s in biotechnology at Northeastern University in Boston), she quickly rose to social media fame with her fresh take on modest dressing.

But this time, it’s not just her impeccable wardrobe that draws us to her London home – though she does showcase a few stunning dresses. Instead, it’s her thoughtful and stylish approach to hosting during Ramadan. From setting a chic iftar table to creating a warm and inviting space for friends, Zozo shares her tips for effortless hosting. Along the way, she reflects on what Ramadan means to a younger generation, blending tradition with a modern perspective.

Zozo’s Top 3 Ramadan Hosting Tips

1. Don’t cook everything yourself.
“My friends and I like to bring a dish each. Not only does it mean you have different things to try, but it also takes the tension off you. There’ll be no worrying about getting the food cooked on time. I’m from Pakistan and samosas are always a hit!”

2. Play games for a fun and inclusive iftar.

“This is especially good when you’re mixing a bunch of people together who don’t know each other. It’s a great way to integrate everybody. But only once everyone has eaten. Hungry people get very competitive.”

3. Don’t take it too seriously.
“Try not to get too fixated on the dishes or what you’re wearing. Iftar should be about spending quality time with the people you love and care about.”

Setting a Chic Iftar Table

If your home features a neutral interior scheme, introducing colourful designs to Ramadan table décor “makes the place pop” and helps your dining space feel more inviting, advises Zoya.

For her iftar table, she has chosen the Verde Maiolica collection by Dolce & Gabbana Casa. “I love the green accents. It has a youthful edge. Whenever I see anything Dolce & Gabbana, I feel like I’m in Italy. You see the same prints on the homeware as on their clothing – they’re my favourite!”

Adding a playful yet elegant touch, Fornasetti glasses featuring the iconic face of Lina Cavalieri make a striking statement. Meanwhile, beautiful blooms, pink candlesticks and gold placemats lend a soft, feminine charm, tying the whole look together.

Ramadan for the Younger Generation

“When a lot of people think about Ramadan, they immediately think about the fasting. But for most Muslims, Ramadan means a lot more. It's about spiritual growth, about giving back to your community and really focusing on the last year that you had. And it's really an opportunity for us to also connect with our family and friends.”

“For me, Ramadan is a great opportunity to get all my Muslim friends together from around the world to see how everyone else celebrates. As the younger generation, we’re trying our best to mix our religious and cultural traditions with our fast-paced lives. Many of us are living, studying or working abroad, so we’re learning to build a community around ourselves that isn’t our immediate families.”

“Our generation has made Ramadan a fun experience, while still incorporating religious elements of the month. People want to dress up and host more. Then they share it on social media, and you get inspiration from each other. It’s a fun time – a time to showcase our culture to the rest of the world.”

Cosy and Inviting Ramadan Home Décor

Turn off the overhead lights and light some candles. “They add such a cosy vibe to the room,” says Zoya. It helps to create an inviting atmosphere and an experience guests can relax into.

Colour and pattern also play a role, through fresh flowers and home accessories like cushions. On Zoya’s sofa, you’ll find designs by Missoni Home – “super cute and it gives your home a fashionable edge. Plus, they’re easier to style than simpler pieces” – alongside Cole & Son x Harrods Interior Design and Poodle & Blonde. Sweet pastel pink and greens appear in Loewe candlesticks, Villari cake-like candles and, following the tablescape theme, the Dolce & Gabbana Casa tea set.

Modest Ramadan Fashion and Eid Outfits

While modest dressing is part of Zoya’s everyday life, Ramadan and Eid often bring lots of events. Whether it’s casual iftars with friends (“where everyone just wears sweats”) to big Eid celebrations (“we call it the Muslim Met Gala!”), Zoya embraces style at every occasion. For an elegant iftar at home, however, Zoya chooses a beautiful satin gown by Victoria Beckham.

“I love Victoria Beckham as a brand. She’s able to mix classy and elegant silhouettes with a playful edge. I love how she has tailored a lot of her pieces so they’re modest, but they still give you shape and a fitted silhouette. [This gown] feels elegant and feminine.”

Abayas and kaftans also feature in Zoya’s Ramadan wardrobe. “They’re comfortable and flowy and they always look good. A simple abaya or kaftan, cute make-up and a blow-dry go a long way! I see a lot of options in Harrods. It’s an amazing place for people who want to dress modestly. Lots of cool new brands and pieces.”
