  • Does Harrods have a dress code?

At Harrods we are very proud of our beautiful store and to ensure it is maintained for all of our customers to enjoy without offence whilst shopping, there are some sensible restrictions on dress code when entering the store. These include asking customers to refrain from wearing crash helmets and to generally ensure they are not wearing anything that could offend another customer or cause damage to our store or merchandise.

  • Are large baggage items and rucksacks allowed in Harrods?

Large baggage and rucksacks must be left at our Left Luggage service for a charge of £3.00. The only exception to this policy is small rucksacks provided they are carried by hand or on your front rather than on the back or shoulder. This is both to prevent damage to displays and for the comfort of all our customers. The Left Luggage facility is located at Door 2A to the rear of Harrods on Basil Street.

  • Can I arrange a group visit to Harrods?

There are periods, when the store is at its busiest, that Harrods has to take the difficult decision to deny access to tour parties and larger groups of visitors.

We would ask that all large parties split into groups of no more than four persons.

All groups must be accompanied by a group leader.

On arrival the group leader must report to Door 5 (situated in Hans Crescent) and inform the security officer who will then brief the group leader. Emergency contact details will be required to be left at the Concierge Desk (situated on the Second Floor) should we need to contact the group.

Groups with children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Accessibility
  • What disabled facilities are available at Harrods?

Harrods is easily accessible to wheelchair users via any of the front doors along Brompton Road or at Door 3, located at the rear of the store in Basil Street. Alternatively, Door 5 on Hans Crescent is also a convenient entry point and there are lifts for access to the upper floors nearby. The ground level is flat and there are security personnel at all the doors who would be pleased to assist with entry. Kensington and Chelsea Council provide parking spaces for disabled permit-holders in Basil Street.

Tax Free Shopping
  • How can I claim back tax on my purchases?

You can visit the Tax Free Shopping Bureau on the Second Floor to discuss how to reclaim the VAT (Value Added Tax) paid on your shopping. Please see an overview of the process below:

In order to claim back VAT, the correct procedure as set out by the Customs Authorities of the European Community must be followed.

To qualify for a refund you will have to:

  • Be a non-EC resident

  • Make a minimum purchase set by the store (Harrods is £50) excluding food, books, children's clothing and services

  • Take the goods out of the EC within 3 months from the month of purchase

  • Take your receipts along with your identification (passport, overseas drivers licence, or ID card) to our the Tax Free Shopping Bureau located on the Second Floor. Your VAT form will be issued here

  • The VAT rate in the UK is 20% (16.67% of the purchase price)

  • Your refund amount is the VAT less an administration fee

You have several choices as to how you receive your VAT refund: immediate cash at the airport, immediate refund to a credit card at Heathrow and Gatwick airport, the direct crediting of a chosen credit card, or a bank cheque to a chosen address if you mail the certified VAT form in the pre-paid envelope that we provide. When leaving the EC, simply show your purchases, receipts and passport to Customs officials and have your refund form(s) stamped. These should then be sent back to Global Blue in the pre-paid envelope that will be provided with the form in Harrods. Once Global Blue has received your VAT form the refund will be made. This can take between 4 and 6 weeks from the date of posting.
