Trend To Try: The New Joggers
No longer the reserve of the gym or weekends on the sofa, joggers are transitioning into everyday attire. Reworked in luxe fabrications with softer, more feminine cuts, they are now the new, wearable essential. Read on for our tips on how to work the trend…
Relaxed trousers defined by their elasticated or drawstring waist and tapered leg, often with ribbed cuffs.
Joggers are the pinnacle of the sports luxe look that has been trending for the past few seasons. Taking their cues from the track, the new joggers retain the easy fit of the original but have been elevated as an answer to the modern woman’s need for a versatile wardrobe. They also act as an effortless alternative to the oh-so tight skinny jean.
Choice of fabric is key with this trend - a pair in grey marl cotton will leave you looking as if you're headed for the gym. Instead, opt for more modern fabrics such as fluid silk, satin and crepe which will also prove office-appropriate. An elasticated or drawstring waist will suit a tucked-in top for a flattering finish, while tapered legs require heels for a leg-lengthening look. Just as good by day as they are by night, turn-up and ribbed cuffs pair well with slip-on flats. Printed joggers, meanwhile, will introduce eye-catching interest to your look.
While Michael Kors kept the look traditional in ashen cashmere, Peter Copping sent burgundy leather joggers down the Nina Ricci AW14 catwalk and Rag & Bone presented theirs in slinky black silk-crepe. A Fashion Week essential for their pull-on-and-go appeal, the style set give a lesson in how to wear them with tucked-in shirts and heels.
