The Hot Ticket: Return Of The Rudeboy

A labour of love by prolific music and film photographer, Dean Chalkley and Creative Director, Harris Elliot, Return of the Rudeboy is a splendid showcase of a sartorial subculture seen through portraits, installations, set pieces and music. Over the course of the past year, the duo have sought out and photographed over 60 sharply-dressed individuals who embody the essence of what it is to be a Rudeboy in the 21st Century.

Originating on the streets of Kingston, Jamaica in the late 1950s, Rudeboy came to represent the young rebels who wore distinctively sharp sartorial styles such as mohair suits, thin ties and pork pie hats that have been appropriated for the modern day with that same rebellious attitude.

Set to a soundtrack of songs hand-picked by the portrait subjects, the collaborative atmosphere is further punctuated by film screenings and a pop-up barber shop offering haircuts and beard trims by Johnnie Sapong x We Are Cuts on Thursdays and Saturdays.

See Return of the Rudeboy in the Terrace Rooms, South Wing at Somerset House from now until Monday 25th August 2014. Free admission daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
