Al Fresco Dining

While sun-soaked Caribbean beaches and Moroccan rooftops may have an obvious allure, nothing can beat the charm of an English country garden for a spot of al fresco dining. Whether you have space for an outdoor dinner party or simply want to entertain in understated style, our summer-ready edit captures the laidback style of an English garden party.

Set the table…
Whites and blues are a fresh place to start for the summer months – we love Gien’s Filets Blues collection for effortless everyday dining, while the Miranda Kerr for Royal Albert collection injects an extra layer of whimsy. Try mismatched tableware for that effortless, thrown-together look.

It’s all in the details…
For the perfect intimate garden party setting, keep floral centrepieces at a low height so you can maintain eye contact with your guests. Waterford’s unique Fleurology Kylie vase is designed to hold laid down stems, but would also make a beautiful vessel for a handful of floating buds, while candles lend a soft glow as the sun goes down.

Cocktail hour…
For occasions big and small, serve fruity cocktails or something fizzy in pretty crystal coupés and switch to elegant wine glasses for the main event. Have a tray on hand – our favourite Mackenzie-Childs one has a wicker trim, making it less precious than a treasured silver heirloom – so you can easily top-up your guests’ drinks in a single trip.

Dinner is served…
Offer an amuse-bouche of canapés and nibbles to occupy guests while you make finishing touches in the kitchen. Take the prep work out of the finer details and try a truffle-centric gourmet Harrods hamper with spreads, oils and breadsticks for dipping. Champagne is always a failsafe opener for the evening and then move onto a crisp, chilled chardonnay to complement the main event.
