The Consultation: What to Expect
I met Dr Sonnie and treatment co-ordinator Lindsey, who immediately greeted me with a warm welcome. The process is meticulous – think less “open wide” and more “this is your smile’s private screening.” There’s a 3D image of my teeth, a full gum check, X-rays, and a few close-ups to complete the picture.
But here’s the difference: the consultation feels collaborative. “The Dr Sonnie smile is about creating something that truly suits you and is bespoke,” he explains. “My approach is to go through every single detail that I believe will make a difference to improving a smile because everything matters – it’s a vision.” And it shows: while we can’t quite plug into the mastermind of Dr Sonnie, we can follow along as he narrates, clinically yet kindly, what’s going on in my mouth. On the screen, he maps my current smile with meticulous attention, while I’m encouraged to add my own wish list of changes.
What struck me most wasn’t just the technology (though seeing my teeth rendered in 3D was equal parts fascinating and confronting), but the dialogue. “A very important part of a consultation is the use of digital photographs and 3D scanning,” Dr Sonnie tells me. “By asking the patient what they notice about their smile through these records, they feel part of the process rather than being told what they need.” And he’s right – there’s space to talk about history, habits, and hopes without a whiff of judgement. We smiled, we laughed, and we talked about my teeth like a canvas to refine rather than a problem to fix.
