5 of the Best Birthday Restaurants in Harrods

Words by Henry Coldstream

No matter what age you’re turning, we’re of the view that birthdays always deserve a healthy dose of theatre, and there’s nowhere quite like Harrods to turn a simple celebration into something rather special. Whether you’re planning a luxurious birthday dinner in London, an indulgent afternoon of tea and cakes or simply an evening catching up with friends over cocktails, our Knightsbridge home is brimming with restaurants and bars waiting to make your celebrations truly memorable.

Perhaps taking your friends for a glamorous afternoon tea at The Georgian sounds like the ideal plan, or why not gather for an evening of festivities in our historic Dining Hall? Moët & Chandon’s Ground Floor Champagne Bar, meanwhile, is always on hand for birthday fizz and nibbles. So, if you’re on the hunt for the best birthday restaurants London has to offer, consider this your guide to some of the most celebratory spots in town.

The Georgian

Few things say ‘celebration’ quite like afternoon tea, and when it comes to afternoon teas in London, The Georgian's offering takes some beating. Gather with friends in our oldest restaurant's glamorous dining room to delight in seasonal sandwiches and patisseries, exceptional scones and, of course, a dazzling array of teas.

Naturally a birthday may call for some fizz and there are plenty of different Champagnes also on offer to dial up the celebrations even further. Music from a live pianist, meanwhile, provides the perfect accompaniment to a timeless Harrods dining experience.

The Harrods Dining Hall

A choice of six restaurants, one historic space and a birthday-ready atmosphere to boot – the Harrods Dining Hall has everything you could possibly need for an unforgettable celebration. With an array of different cuisines on offer in our former Meat and Fish Hall, you’ll have no trouble finding a spot that ticks all the right boxes.

Will it be a steak and red wine dinner with friends at The Grill or maybe a more intimate evening of Japanese small plates and sake up at Kinoya Sushi’s counter? There are no wrong answers here.

Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar

Sometimes it’s best not to overcomplicate birthday plans. The go-to celebratory combinations – say a glass of Champagne and half a dozen oysters – are classics for a reason. And there’s no place better in-store for a civilised glass or two of fizz than the Moët & Chandon Champagne Bar.

Sit beneath a shimmering canopy of golden disks and indulge in a range of different Moët & Chandon cuvées from classics to rare vintages, alongside both sweet and savoury snacks. For the ultimate showstopper, however, opt for the Champagne pyramid experience to witness a magnum of Brut Impérial cascaded over a tower of glasses on arrival. Now that’s a true celebration.

Em Sherif

If it’s a Middle Eastern birthday feast you’re craving, look no further than Em Sherif. Our Second Floor outpost of this celebrated Lebanese restaurant boasts a huge menu, covering everything from cold mezze to grills and vibrant desserts – all perfect for sharing as a group.

Raise a toast with a round of Beirut beers, before getting stuck into the likes of wagyu hummus, grilled lamb chops and beef shawarma. And don’t worry about over-ordering – anything you don’t finish can always be packed up for a post-birthday lunch the following day!

Chai Wu

There’s something about celebrating an occasion with a Chinese meal that just feels right. Nestled away up on our Fifth Floor, Chai Wu has all the familiarity of any Chinese restaurant but with an added sprinkling of luxury.

Take the signature Beijing duck, for example; naturally, it’s served crisp with hoisin sauce and pancakes (and, in this case, also fluffy mantou buns) – but at Chai Wu, the remainder of the duck is minced and stir-fried for a second serving. It’s this kind of detail which ensures that meals here always feel that extra bit special.
